As a professional musician working in a London orchestra, I find it frustrating that the views of some (not all) people can strongly affect individuals' careers, and to some extent a large organisation's future. A little investigation into some critics (especially the rogue ones now, what with blogging being so easy), shows that not all are so wonderfully qualified to be throwing their opinion about in the public domain like a large female East German hammer-thrower.
As much as I would like to celebrate some good critics or good critiques, I cannot do that unless I am present at whichever concert. What I can and will do, however, is to look at what they write and attempt to show up the BS that we all too often hear and see from them. This may involve saying not nice things about some musicians, sadly, and may involve some compliments. We'll see. As and when I find reviews I shall write on them. Please let me know if you have found a review you'd like my comment on.
